Hi,

Thanks for the August 2007 ARNPCare. I'm so delighted to have such a strong
lobby for ARNP's in our state. I have an independent solo practice
(pediatrics) in University Place, WA. The only barrier to practice that
I've stumbled across is hospital privileges. In order to have hospital
privileges at Tacoma General Hospital/Mary Bridge, and Franciscan Health
Care/St. Joseph Hospital, I must have a physician sponsor. In order to take
insurance conteracts, it's required that I have hospital privileges. Now, I
admit to the inpatient services at the hospital for my patients and don't
follow their care directly while inpatient.

What I'd love ARNP United to help with in the future is to work on
eliminating the requirement for a physician sponsor for hospital privileges
in the case where the ARNP admits to an inpatient service.

Thanks!

Michelle Hayes, ANRP, CPNP
