Nurse Practitioners – NICU, CVICU, Oncology
CHOC is currently seeking qualified Nurse 
Practitioners to work in their NICU, CVICU, or
Oncology departments. In this role, you will 
function in an advanced practice role as a clinical
expert in the management of pediatric patients 
within a family centered care environment. You
will plan, implement, and evaluate the plan of 
care for patients. Duties include performing history
and physical examinations, ordering and 
interpreting appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests,
and furnishing of pharmacological and 
non-pharmacological therapies in a cost efficient manner.
You will provide consultation and education to 
patients, families, and members of the
multi-disciplinary team.

Qualifications include:
* Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a MSN
* Current California RN license
* Current Nurse Practitioner certification
* PALS and BLS certification
* At least three years experience as a pediatric RN

About the NICU, CVICU, and Oncology departments at CHOC

NICU
The NICU is a new/small baby unit staffed by 
specially trained multi-disciplinary teams utilizing
evidence based care guidelines. CHOC’s 42-bed 
NICU includes four multi-patient rooms, six
single care rooms, and a 2-bed Extracorporeal 
Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) unit. This
life-saving ECMO unit is the only one in Orange County.

CVICU
CHOC’s 12-room CVICU is a designated area, which 
includes two fully equipped procedure
rooms that enables physicians to perform 
life-saving surgery on children who otherwise could
not be transported out of the unit. All of the 
CVICU rooms are outfitted with leading-edge
technology equal to the demands of monitoring 
children after complex operations. The unit
also features a satellite pharmacy, an onsite 
blood-gas lab for respiratory therapy, and a family
zone sponsored by the Ronald McDonald House. The 
family zone is a bright airy waiting area
with comfortable furnishings and a respite lounge 
for parents. Additional amenities include
private sleep alcoves, a kitchenette, shower 
facilities, internet access, and a family consultation
room­all just steps away from patient rooms, physicians, and staff.

Oncology
The Oncology unit at CHOC is staffed with nurses 
specially trained to treat the complex
conditions that accompany pediatric cancers. This 
28-bed Hematology/Oncology unit, and
12-bed Oncology Intensive Care Unit (OICU) is the 
only dedicated pediatric program in Orange
County. As part of the CHOC Cancer Institute, 
this program offers the latest in medical and
surgical oncology including chemotherapy, 
radiotherapy, and blood/marrow transplantation.
This program brings together a full range of 
pediatric services and multi-disciplinary care for
our pediatric cancer patients and their families.
