Nurse Practitioner - Medical Oncology Hospital Service

Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, offers an exciting, new opportunity for 
Nurse Practitioners to join
our hospital service in the Department of Medical Oncology. The NP 
will work in collaboration
with a multidisciplinary care team of oncology consultants, residents 
and fellows, and allied
health staff to care for adult inpatients on the medical oncology 
service. The patient population
will include patients with malignancy who need evaluation and 
treatment of cancer-related
medical problems including pain management, nutrition, management of 
chemotherapy side
effects, acute neurological changes, acute and chronic cardiovascular 
and pulmonary concerns.

In this setting, the NP will address patients' immediate medical 
needs, as well as provide
educational and psychosocial support for their diagnosis and 
treatment of the malignancy. This
position offers the opportunity to utilize a variety of high level 
internal medicine, problem-solving
and critical thinking skills. The NP will be expected to work and 
with a high level of autonomy
caring for the Oncology patients who have a wide range of complex 
medical problems.
Responsibilities will include completing the initial evaluation and 
work-up at time of admission,
developing a differential diagnosis to address the patient issues 
leading to hospital admission,
developing a comprehensive plan of care for their hospital care and 
coordinating their discharge
plan to include follow-up in the out-patient setting with their 
primary Oncology provider. The NP
who is comfortable making decisions and actively participating in 
patient management will thrive
working in this role.

Candidates must be masters prepared graduates of an accredited school 
of nursing and Nurse
Practitioner program. Current Minnesota RN license and certification, 
or eligible to be certified, as
a FNP, ANP, or ACNP (certification must be obtained within 6 months 
of employment date.) BLS
certification and DEA registration will be required. Prior experience 
working with patients with
complex medical problems, oncology and cardiovascular experience is 
preferred, but not required.
Individuals who have a strong desire to work as a member of a 
multidisciplinary care team, have
excellent communication and critical thinking skills, are able to 
work autonomously and clearly
communicate educational information to patients as well as provide 
psychosocial support to
patients and their families will find this position professionally 
challenging and very satisfying.
