CHOC Children’s is building a new 
state-of-the-art patient care tower set to open on our main
campus in Spring 2013. Destined to be one of the 
most advanced children’s hospitals in the
world, our newly expanded facility will feature 
an additional 200 beds and 425,000+ square feet
of space with an advanced pediatric emergency 
department, operating rooms, laboratory,
pathology, imaging and radiology services. To 
promote a serene, healing environment for
children and their families, the tower will also 
incorporate leading design and safety principles,
private rooms and enhanced family amenities, as 
well as open and inviting indoor/outdoor
spaces, including a café.

Nurse Practitioner- CVICU (Cardiovascular)

The Cardiovascular Nurse Practitioner functions 
in an Advanced Practice role as a clinical
expert in the management of pediatric cardiac 
patients within a family centered care
environment. Practicing within developed 
Standardized Procedures and Process Protocols the
Cardiovascular Nurse Practitioner plans, 
implements and evaluates the plan of care for
medical and surgical pediatric cardiovascular 
patient population. Management includes, but
not limited to, performing history and physical 
examination, ordering and interpreting
appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, and 
furnishing of pharmacological and
non-pharmacological therapies in a cost efficient 
manner. The Cardiovascular Nurse
Practitioner functions both as an independent 
practitioner and in collaboration with the
multidisciplinary cardiac team. He/She provides 
consultation and education to patients,
families, and members of the multidisciplinary teams.

Ideal professional will be a Graduate of an 
accredited Nurse Practitioner program, MSN
required and have a current CA RN license, Nurse 
Practitioner certification, current PALS and
BLS, and Furnishing and DEA number. In addition a 
minimum of three plus years experience
as a pediatric critical care RN, with minimum of 
one year pediatric CVICU and one year
experience as a Nurse Practitioner in pediatric 
critical care, prefer pediatric cardiovascular
experience.
