The Nurse Practitioner (NP) shall provide services at San Antonio 
Military Medical Center (SAMMC). This position has been designated as 
Emergency Essential Personnel. The NP shall provide the highest 
consideration to patient dignity and observe the precepts of the 
American Hospital Association’s “Bill of Rights for Patients.”

*_QUALIFICATIONS_*
The NP shall have sufficient experience and skills to be able to 
adequately perform the tasks identified in this work statement as stated 
below:

* Be a graduate of a recognized Advanced Practice Nursing educational 
program and possess evidence of certification according to the 
requirements of the Board Certified /Advanced Practice certifying 
organization.
* Have and maintain a valid, unencumbered license as a registered nurse 
in at least one state within the United States, District of Columbia, 
Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. If the state of 
registration has a separate Advanced Practice (APN) licensure, the nurse 
practitioner shall also have APN licensure.
* Current unrestricted license to practice in a state or a territory of 
the United States, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or the District of 
Columbia.

*_SPECIFIC TASKS_*
The NP shall perform the duties encompass nursing functions for which 
they bear responsibility and medically delegated functions of an Advance 
Practice Nurse. The Nurse Practitioner shall perform the same clinical 
duties as those required of any military or government civil service HCP 
of similar experience and in similar duty assignments.

* Perform and complete pre-anesthesia evaluations for patients in all 
age groups, newborns through geriatrics, having outpatient and inpatient 
surgery. Assigns American Society of Anesthesiologist’s physical status 
classification to the patient. The information from pre-anesthesia 
evaluations will be used to educate the patient about and to organize 
resources for potential anesthesia modalities used during the 
perioperative period to include intraoperative care, postoperative 
recovery, and perioperative pain management.
* Pre-anesthesia evaluation consists of the consideration of information 
from multiple sources that may include the patient's medical records, 
interview, physical examination, and findings from medical tests and 
evaluations. As part of the pre-anesthesia evaluation process, the NP 
will be required to consult with other health care professionals to 
obtain information or services that are relevant to pre-anesthesia 
evaluation process. Perform pre-anesthesia evaluations and patient 
education for anesthesia services.
