*Description*
Stony Brook Medicine's Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants are
valuable members of our team who provide clinical services to our
patient population. We are seeking candidates to work in our Infectious
Disease division to provide care for our outpatient population under the
supervision of the identified supervising physician. Qualified
candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess
outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standards of
excellence.
Duties may include the following but are not limited to:
The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will report to Dr. Marcos
in the Division of Infectious Diseases and be responsible for the following:
* Independently assess and evaluate follow up patients with Infectious
Diseases, mostly patients with tick-borne diseases (Lyme disease,
babesia, ehrlichiosis, etc).
* Perform physical exams and draw blood samples in some patients for
research purposes.
* Prescribe antibiotics and able to perform skin biopsies.
* Enroll outpatient and/or inpatients into research studies.
* Answer calls from the community regarding tick-borne diseases.
* Be able to travel to Southampton Clinics to enroll patients on
research studies (20-25 visits a year).
* Manage patients on Infectious Disease Consult Team.
* Review, evaluate, and make recommendations regarding laboratory
findings for patients.
* Work alongside Infectious Diseases faculty and trainees.
* Provide coverage for inpatient service also.
* Rotate through established “call” schedule for Physician extenders as
needed.
* Assist in transition of care planning.
* Demonstrate skills in collaboration, teamwork and problem solving to
achieve goals.
* Knowledge of basic software packages and hospital information systems
(EMR).
* Knowledge on conducting human research.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Nurse Practitioner: Current NYS license and certification as a Nurse
Practitioner. Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school.
*Physician Assistant:*Current NYS physician assistant license and
certification. Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant studies from an
accredited school.
*PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:*
At least one year of experience working as a Nurse Practitioner or
Physician Assistant. Previous experience in Infectious Diseases, in
particular experience in Tick-Borne Diseases.
