*Description*

This position serves as a healthcare professional who, under the 
direction and supervision of a licensed physician, will provide care to 
patients seen at the Stony Brook Medicine division of Gastroenterology 
and Hepatology ambulatory office, located at 3 Technology Drive in East 
Setauket, NY. The physician extender is expected to maintain and enhance 
a current level of knowledge relative to professional practice, as well 
as meet the requirements necessary for licensure and certification. The 
following duties will be expected:

* Conduct comprehensive or episodic health assessment of GI patients 
with an emphasis on Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

* Establish medical diagnosis; order and evaluate diagnostic studies, 
prescribe and regulate medications, perform and monitor therapeutic 
procedures, assess and/or manage follow up plans within the protocols 
and practice privileges approved by the supervising physician and 
consistent with established policies and procedures, make patient phone 
calls as needed.

* Record and document health appraisal data necessary to maintain, 
coordinate and/or expedite required services.

* Maintain ongoing communication with Physician Collaborator.

* Assist with insurance authorization process for medical therapies in 
IBD patients.

* Act as a resource and consultant to health care staff.

* Participate in Inflammatory Bowel Disease related research projects.

* Other duties as assigned.

*Qualifications*

*Required Qualifications:*

*Physician Assistant:*License and certification as a Physician 
Assistant. Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of Physician 
Assistants. Two (2) years of full-time experience in a medical practice 
setting.

*Nurse Practitioner:*License to practice as a registered nurse in New 
York State. Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Nursing or 
completion of a course for Nurse Practitioner and certification as a 
Nurse Practitioner in Adult Health. Two (2) years of full-time 
experience in a medical practice setting.

*Preferred Qualifications:*

Experience working in a busy outpatient GI office with previous patient 
care experience in Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
